| "BBQ" means "Baby Boom Quarters!" That's right! John "PJ" and Carolyn Davis, original owners of PJ's BAR-B-Q and Catering, grew up and met in the Buffalo, NY, area during the Baby Boom era (1946-1964). They currently use as their "quarters" a home across the street from the restaurant completely furnished and decorated from that time period. When time allows, the Davis' enjoy showing their "BBQ" home. The house has become an attraction for local residents and visitors alike. Gazette reporter Colleen Brush (The 50's Alive at Saratoga Springs House, Dec 7, 1996) writes: ". . . decorated entirely with memorabilia and even working appliances from the bebop era ... A 1953 Chevy BelAir sat in the driveway fully equipped with fuzzy dice hanging from the rearview mirror, while pink flamingo statues decorated the lawn ... Every television in the house is from the 1950s, and all the appliances, including an old Maytag wringer washer, still work ... Even the magazines in the home are collected from the 1950s, with Better Homes and Gardens lying on tables in the living room. A Mamie and Ike commemorative plate hangs on the dining room wall ... Visitors wandering around the house could be heard saying, 'Oh, remember this? ...There are so many memories flooding back, I'm getting misty'..." The Saratogian reporter Jill Wing (50 and Feelin' 'Groovy', Nov 2, 1997) writes: "...It's a place that would do June and Ward Cleaver proud ... It's what PJ calls 'a living museum' ... The house, recognizable by the pink flamingos in the front yard, is a 'Happy Days' throwback, with a malt shop-style booth in the kitchen and 40 year old working appliances ...Visitors can't help recall snippets of their childhood as they tour the three-bedroom house. 'That's the most fun,' PJ said ..." |
